I’m sitting here at home, watching the Bladerunner cut-scenes (which effectively tell the whole movie in a different way AND with different scenes; dead cool… oh and in 1/3 of the time!). I’m feeling good.

I got to the bottom of a bunch of issues which had been bugging me, and resolved things with M.

The oddness of the week, the bad energy, the down depressive state I was in (due at least in part to my diet due to being penniless) is now gone.

I’m feeling better. I’m feeling good.

And I’m feeling tired.

Unfortunately the big mac, the twin processor mirror drive door machine I use for my entertainment unit – running DVDs and music – had an issue with its hard disk; so I’m reinstalling the OS. Hopefully it won’t take much longer because I want to go to bed.

And before you tell me that I can just leave it running, the machine is positioned right where my head is on the other side of the wall… and I don’t like having any electrical equipment running near my head when I’m sleeping; makes me restless.

But I may need to get over it; so there you are.

Oh yeah, another point of irritation: the Airport card in the MiniMac turned up its feet and died on Sunday.

On calling the supplier I was informed that the mac was still in warranty — good — and that there was a 7 day wait before the service dept could get to look at it — bad.

Means I’ve got do to Yet Another Fucking User Transfer onto the laptop. Thankfully I’ve got the big screen now and so can plug it into the laptop…

The bonus here is that I can find out if it’s the screen or the logic-board that’s busted on the laptop, which has left me with an odd pink vertical line about two thirds to the right of the screen.

This line will apparently cost me a fortnight’s pay to get fixed, which apparently is pointless as it’s the same cost as the mid-level MacBook.

So, I’m keeping the data backed-up and will run it into the ground… figuratively-speaking that is… until it finally turns up its toes and dies and I can justify a replacement.

I saw one of the OLPC machines riding home last week and thought they were pretty neat, especially since I only use a laptop for email and pushing out new stories (albeit infrequently these days) and a big honking great mac, while pretty and drool-worthy, is total overkill for that sort of job.

Well, it ain’t an iPhone…

Looks like a pale version of a Crackberry or even — goddess forbid — a Palm Treo.

Funny how Sony Ericsson is bagging the devic, especially since they’ve just linked their destiny to Microsoft.

So, it’ll really be a battle of the phones. iPhone is apparently going gangbusters wherever it’s sold (and some places it isn’t), the Crackberry is potentially making a rod for its own back, Palm is just about dead, so what else is there?

Well, the OpenMoko Neo1973 still hasn’t been released, but it still looks very good, and sports a nifty touch-screen a’la iPhone, and there really isn’t any real competitor as far as I can see to the iPhone other than the aforementioned Android…

So the game’s afoot really…

Another Apple rave.

What makes me really laugh about this — and every other article online I’ve read which declares how nice Apple equipment is — is the rabid and aggressive response from the PC fanbois out there in interweb territory.

It’s so … what’s the word I’m looking for…? Defensive, that’s it. They’re terribly defensive; like they assume that because someone touts how easy an opposing computer is to use and how nice the hardware looks, that it’s a personal attack on the very soul of their preferred computer system.

One of the major things I notice is that the fanbois tend to attack the person and not the argument, thus:

 ha! on 02/12/2008

“I’m A Lot Less Savvy And Smart Than I Thought.”

“OK, I’m an idiot, a near retard with no self-control.”

And we’re supposed to believe this drivel you write about, self-titled retard? Go find some play-dough or something, leave thinking to the big boys.

and…

idiocy

you are the biggest idiot ever… idiocy is an understatement.

Now, I’ll admit that I don’t make a habit of reading Windows articles, so there could very well be apple fanbois out there doing much the same. My experience of Apple verus PC is that life is nicer on the whole with the former rather than the latter; and I’ve been using computers for 30 years, and professionally for 15.

But who am I to comment?

The Plot Thickens.

This could be an issue for my oft mentioned hope to be able to use a VoIP enabled iPod Touch as a telephone, but it’s still early days for this idea.

However, the people at iPod Touch Mods are going gangbusters on their microphones, so the demand is certainly there…

We’ll just have to wait and see what happens once the iPod Touch SDK is made available…

In the meantime, there’s an alternative available… at least in 2 months time.

Here’s to sleeping for long periods.

Here’s to not having one’s laptop right beside one while attempting to sleep, with the standby light glowing brighter and dimmer like a heartbeat, and the power point blazing away in orange and then green.

Better to put the whole thing on the other side of the room, or better still, in a bag.

Even better, is not to use said laptop for hours before going to sleep.
